Smart Your Age

Anti-Aging: Is it real? What works?

We are all getting older. And our skin is one of the first organ to suffer undesirable age effects: wrinkles, cracks, dryness, hyper pigmentation or age spots.

The market is full of anti-aging products and more so – promises for reversing signs of age. But, how do we know which works? Is there a real body of proof to support promises of the beauty industry?

With our scientific background we, at DUO Cosmetics decided to find the truth about anti-aging. From early on it was clear to us there was more to do than exist today.

The search for real efficacy

Based on in depth and long scientific approach and a long research we found a surprising fact: there are only few substances that actually significantly influence skin ageing.

The precise researches and experiments allow us to pinpointing the few potent - the predominantly most effective skincare ingredients.

The catch with active ingredients

Most of those active ingredients are very sensitive: they oxidize, they degrade and lose activity. Most often it happens much quicker than expiration date due to interactions between chemicals in the formulation, due to light, heat and more.

Bottom line: Effective anti-aging formulation is hard to get!

The Solution – Duo's approach

If you are a single-product type of person you may chose the one that works best for you and use it daily!

If your concern is mostly wrinkles and dull skin:

I recommend C15 serum in the morning and A+BE in the evening.

Layering Omega 365 morning and night will make your skin supple and give you a radiant complexion.

If your main concern is depigmentation or age spots:

Apply A – Retinol booster at night and layer with BE serum.

Please note – DUO’s 1% Retinol booster is very potent and could be irritating as you start using it.

It is recommended to introduce your skin to A by mixing it with BE at a gradually increased ratio.

Applying C15 or C Lightening serum in the morning will make the job completely done!

In fact, some will find fresh Vitamin C serum to be THE most important agent in their arsenal.

Finally: It is always recommended to wear sunscreen under the sun!

We don't know how to stop the clock, but we can help ourselves look younger in a few simple steps:

  • Cleanse - Remove any skin care product or makeup that you’ve applied during the day. A gentle cleanser will also wash away natural skin oils, pollutants, and bacteria that’s accumulated.

  • Pick an anti-aging serum that works - The best anti-aging ingredients to look out for are vitamin A (Retinol) and vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid). Along with increasing collagen synthesis in your skin, they also act as antioxidants.

  • Exfoliate -  As you age, your skin slows down replenishing itself. Dead skin cells aren’t replaced by fresh cells as quickly, which means your skin starts to look dull and uneven. If you’ve reached your 40’s, consider exfoliating once or twice a week. The best exfoliants for maturing skin are alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) like glycolic acid and lactic acid.

  • Moisturize - One of the big reasons for fine lines is inadequate skin hydration. Look for a moisturizer that contains water-binding humectants like glycerine and hyaluronic acid. Natural oils, reach of polyunsaturated fatty acids (Omega 3, Omega 6) will also nourish your skin, improve its barrier function and protect from photodamage. Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) is another allrounder ingredient to look for in a good anti-aging moisturizer.

  • Always apply sunscreen!
